VERSE OF THE DAY FOR SEPTEMBER 1, 2020
Today's Bible Verse for Meditation and memorization is James 3:13
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in meekness of wisdom. (NKJV)
New living translation renders it like this:If you are wise and understand God's ways prove it by living an honourable life, doing good works with humility that comes from wisdom.
Thoughts on Today's Verse
If I am wise and feel that I understand God's ways, I need to prove it...this is the primary point. Sometimes we hear some Christians say "I am serving God in my spirit" or "I am serving God in my heart" "it is my heart that matters..." Sometimes we quote John 4: 23 wrongly; those that will worship him will worship him in spirit and in truth. The point of that verse is actually the location or place of worship and not the areas to be affected by our worship. There is no where in the scriptures that support the claim that our worship of God should be a hidden lifestyle. Rather, It is to permeate every single aspect of our lives. Yes, we need to prove it to God, to Satan, to the angels, to the kingdom of darkness, to ourselves and to the world around us that Christ's salvation has made us new creatures who are wise in God; who understand God's ways.
Thankfully, God didn't leave us to start guessing. He is plain that we can prove this by living honourable lives, doing good works in humility. This kind of lifestyle is made possible by the godly wisdom we've received from Jesus, who is himself the wisdom of God. James 3:17 talks about wisdom that comes from heaven as being first pure, peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy...so it is not the place of a Christian to live his life in worldly wisdom. We must live in the consciousness that we have to make our election sure by proving what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God; day in day out. So that we may be found worthy of the one who called us when he appears in glory.
PRAYER: father, your ways are far far different from ours, the way we think is different from yours. Help us in your mercy, lord, to learn in humility how to live out our lives as a testimonial before the world that we have been with Jesus. Help us to quit coping worldly patterns but look to the scriptures for the wisdom you have approved for us. We ask this in Jesus mighty name, Amen!
