VERSE OF THE DAY FOR AUGUST 31, 2020

Today's bible verse for meditation and memorization is  Proverbs 3:7

Do not be wise in your own eyes, fear the lord and depart from evil (NKJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse

What does it mean to fear the lord? This simply means that I reverence God totally and completely without any reservations. His precepts, words, concepts, demands, works and judgements are the basic foundations upon which my life is built. So, I stay away from anything that is contrary to his opinion. This is not out of  paralyzing fear, but out of love and acceptance of his authority over me. In Job 28:28 we hear the lord saying to man "behold, the fear of the lord, that is wisdom  and to depart from evil that is understanding". Wisdom is not acquired from education or training. True wisdom is from God. Anyone who keeps himself pure by adhering to the commands of the lord is a wise man. Being wise in our own eyes denotes pride and arrogance. Romans 12:16  advises us not to mind high things but be of the same mind with one another and be not wise in our own conceits. Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. 1Peter 5::6 , therefore, humble yourself under the mighty hand of the lord in due time he will exalt you.

PRAYER: Father, thank you so much for your wisdom which you have embedded in your son Jesus. Grant that we who have come to the knowledge of your marvelous wisdom may stand resolute and steadfast in churning evil while embracing your command as the sure route to the wisdom that makes rich in Jesus name, Amen!
