Daily Guide Devotional: Only One Gospel

 Text: Galatians 1:1-10

The Gospel that Paul is talking about is seen in verse 4, it says: "In order to set us free from this present evil age, Christ gave himself for our sins, in obedience to the will of our God and father" (GNB).

This is also echoed in 1Corinthians 15: 3 - 4 "for I declared to you first of all that which I also received; that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures and that He was buried according to the scriptures and that he rose again the third day according to the Scriptures"(NKJV)

This is the message of the entire bible. As Paul said in verses 8 and 9, anyone who preaches a different message " let him be accursed". Jesus is the reason we are here. He is the only reality in the entire universe. Everything done by God as we see in the pages of scripture, beginning from creation to the end of time, is for him, through him and in him. The Judaizers tried to help God because they felt it is too cheap to say that Jesus alone saves. The system of give and take, work and wages have become so ingrained in man that these judaizers even after believing in Jesus' death still feel it is inadequate to attribute salvation only to what Jesus has done, so, they keep focusing on the works of the law. They want Jesus and they also want to keep the laws of Moses for acceptance. But Paul says "No, this is wrong, it is Christ and Christ alone, no more; no less!"

Today, many churches are still in this error. Many preachers who have been brought up by people who keep the law and also call on Christ are so confused even when the truth is so glaring in the bible. So we see a lot of mixtures going up and down.  Today, the message is coming to us again. We are not expected to keep the laws of Moses anymore than we are expected to wear our worn out clothes. God's eternal principle is to; in Jesus, harvest men and women whose hearts have been made alive in love toward God and humanity by the work of the indwelling holy spirit which Jesus has shed abroad. Those who have been changed from the inside and have received the life giving spirit in Jesus. These are the new specie of men that God has prepared the new heaven and earth for. They are those who bear the mark of Jesus the Christ.
