DAILY GUIDE DEVOTIONAL: Self Commendation is Never Authentic (Watch Video)

Text: 2 Corinthians 10:12-18

Paul in today's reading was addressing the Corinthians wrong perception of his ministry.  He tries to defend his ministry by explaining that his commendation comes from God and not from man. It is obvious that some persons have proudly exalted themselves; boasting about their achievements and commending themselves based on their own idea of what success in ministry is. Paul however admonished that the proof of his ministry was working in "unchartered islands" as he he has been directed by God and not building upon what someone else has done. 

Indeed, every man who claims God's call upon his life as a pastor should be ready to go to the hinterlands where the gospel has not yet reached to bring deliverance to the captives of Satan through the gospel. Sadly, this is not so. Today, many pastors break away from their churches with the intention of taking as many people from their parent church as they can possibly deceive. This breeds a lot of rancour and resentments in the body of Christ. Every pastor wants to be posted in a township church. If they are posted otherwise they begin to lament.

"Thus saith the lord, let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches, but let him that glories, glory in this that he understands and knows me that I am the lord which exercise loving kindness, judgment and righteousness in the earth for in these things I delight says the lord" (Jeremiah 9:23-24). 

Those who compare their success in ministry with that of another; by the amount of money acquired or .number of members or followers should read this passage properly. Even in our thoughts, we should avoid the error of comparing ourselves with ourselves. Our major pursuit is that whatever we do may be acceptable to God who has called us.
