DAILY GUIDE DEVOTIONAL: The Devastating Effects of Sin

Text: Lamentations 4:1-22

The devastating effects of sin is horrifying. Every single verse of this scripture captures the untold and indescribable torture the children of  Israel had to pass through as a result of sin. Can you imagine a woman cooking her child for a meal (verse 10) for want of hunger? The young Children ask for bread but no one breaks it for them,_the tongue of the infant cling to the roof of their mouth for thirst (verse 4). This is what God saw which made him send Jesus. God knows how terrible sin is, so, he began to warn man about it right from Eden.

Sin reduces an estate to rubbles. The treasures lose their values and become worthless. Have you witnessed a once glorious family known for its wealth and affluence suddenly loosing its fortune due to wanton living  by the children? This is a close picture to what is being described here. Jerusalem was the pride of Nations. The temple was the hallmark of its beauty but now, the previous stones used in building it have all been scattered at the head of every street.

"The lord has fulfilled his fury. He has poured out his fierce anger" (verse 11), because of the sins of her prophets and the iniquities of her priests" ( verse13). God holds the prerogative to punish sin and all unrepentant sinners. He sent Jesus to curb this devastation. He knows what horror sins' effect can work so he doesn't want us to suffer it. He has sent Jesus to  redeem man and cancel every effect of sin. He doesn't want any to perish so he says "I have come that they may have life and have it more abundantly" (John 10:10). What are you doing with this offer. Look again at verse 6, Sodom was once judged. Can you recall the horror? Now its Jerusalem. It can happen to anyone and to any country. Let us run and embrace Jesus today; our only hope and surety out of destruction.
