The bible verse for Meditation and memorization today is Mathew 4:4

And Jesus answered him saying, it is written, man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.(KJV)

Thoughts on Today's verse

Jesus made this statement to Satan in the wilderness during his temptation. He did not try to negotiate with Satan  through human wisdom. He simply depended  on the word of God. From Deuteronomy 8:3, he quoted what had been written down as a guide for what the real food of a man should be. "Man must not live by bread alone". 

This means that man needs bread to survive but the real sustenance is the word of God. When we consider the fact that everything that was created came into existence through the spoken word of God (Hebrews 11:3) the world itself  was framed by the word and is being held in place from its foundation till now only by the word of God, then we must marvel at its power and never joke with it. The word of God is eternal, it stands forever (Isaiah 40:8) 

This word is none other than Jesus himself. John 1:1 tells us; " in the beginning was the word, the word was God and the word was with God'. And Revelations 19:13 echoes it: "Jesus is the word of God". He exemplified this while on earth.  Jesus lived his life in the flesh as a man like us by totally depending on the word of God. Everything he ever did found its meaning in the volume of books, the scriptures. There was nothing he did that was not according to the revealed word of God.  

Today, the message is for us. How do we live our lives as Christians? 1 Peter 1:23, tells us that "we are born again, not of corruptible seed but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which lives and abides forever" Alleluia!  In Luke  8:11, Jesus said; "the seed is the word of God"'. Beloved the word of God is the source of our new life. The first Adam was formed from the earth and he became a living soul, but the second Adam (Jesus) is a life giving spirit (1Corinthians 15) and he is the word of God.  

Now if we are born of the word of God, we can only be sustained by the word of God. The flesh is sustained by the fruits of the earth (plants and animal produce) by which it was made, in the same way, our spiritual life cannot go on if it does not feed on the word of God regularly. The same way we feed our bodies with food is the same way we should feed and nourish our spirit man with the word of God. The word is the sword of the spirit (Ephesians 6:17). 

When we rebel against the word of God and condemn the counsel of the most high he brings down our hearts with labour and we fall down where no one can help us. (Psalms 107:11-12) It is impossible to bring back to faith those who were once enlightened, who have tasted the word of God, if they fall away (Hebrews 6:4-8). 

Therefore we must study to show ourselves approved of God as Workmen who need not be ashamed but rightly dividing the word of truth (2Timothy 2:15). Our faith comes only by hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17). Every word of God is pure (Proverbs 30:5) therefore, keep yourself pure, vigorous and energized daily by feeding on this fountain of life and purity. 

PRAYER: Father we thank you for the new life we have in you which is made possible by your word Jesus Christ. May you sustain us in this word. Give us the desire to always hunger for this sincere milk of this word so that we can grow thereby. We ask this in the me of your loving son Jesus, Amen!
