DAILY GUIDE REVIEW: The Blessings of Fellowship and Unity

Text: Psalms 133:1-3

This is one of the shortest psalms in the bible having only three verses, it's also one out of the four song of the pilgrims  or song of ascents attributed to David. Its three verses are deeply couched to display the beauty of fellowship and unity among God's people. It's picturesque description of this unity is second to none. It exemplifies the reason for Jesus' prayer in John 17:20-23 and reminds us of what God intends to do in the end in Ephesians 1:10.

Communion of saints is the next happiness upon earth to communion with God. Christian unity is far beyond common friendship. It is a unity of holiness which gives off a sweet fragrance of brotherly love. It is sacred and rare like the anointing oil which must never be poured on any other than the high priest. Unity amongst God's people is not only pleasant it brings about many other good things that people loose when there is bickering. It makes God's people  thrive as it eschews all sorts of destructive vices and  promotes only success and progress.

In John 17:20-23, part of Jesus' prayer the night before his crucifixion was " neither pray I for these alone but for them also which shall believe on me through their word. That they may be one, as thou father art in me and I in thee, that they also may be one in us.; that the world may believe that thou has sent me". This verse is a clear evidence of what Jesus wants with us as believers. The union he shares with the father makes them inseparable and with this unity in the God head, God could achieve all his purposes and plans.

United we stand but divided we fall is an old cliché that is so representative of the church of Christ today. The enemy has sowed so much tares and their roots have caused a lot of rancour and bitterness among brethren that all we now know is "I am for Apollos and I am for Paul as if Christ is divided, hence we've become impoverished and pauperized in spiritual achievements.

The effect of the church on the world is fast loosing its  hold.  We must understand that this is God's desire and prayerfully seek for its actualization in the body of Christ through careful intentional prayers and deliberate personal efforts. So that  "in the dispensation of the fullness of times he (God) might gather together in one all things in Christ both which are in heaven and which are on the earth even in him (Ephesians 1:10)

PRAYER: father we can't thank you enough for the gift of fellowship you have blessed us with in this new life of faith we've found, grant us O lord the grace to understand your heart of love which cherishes togetherness and unity so that we can learn from your relationship with Jesus how to dwell together in unity with fellow disciples. This we pray lord in Jesus name, Amen!
