DAILY GUIDE DEVOTIONAL: God's word is the Perfect Guide for Life
Bible Text: Psalms 119:1-24
Psalm 119 is not only the longest psalm in the bible, it is also the longest chapter. More interestingly, it is devoted entirely to the praise of God's word. The centrality of the word of God to the Christian cannot be overemphasized. The word of God is what gave birth to our new life. Therefore, this life can only be sustained by the same word. The psalm opens with a declaration of blessings. "Blessed are the undefiled who walk in the law of the lord". This is exciting! In other words, those who are pure are the ones who walk in the law of the lord. So, if I wish to examine how pure I am for instance, or how pure and undefiled a person is or how pure a church is, the only yardstick to use is to check if they abide in the law of the lord.
I love Psalms 19:7, it says, the law of the lord is perfect, converting the soul, the testimony of the lord is sure, making wise the simple". Again 2 Samuel 22:31 "as for God his way is perfect, the word of the lord is tried; he is a buckler to all them that trust in him". God's word is perfect, complete, it lacks nothing, therefore, it can be trusted. We can trust his word to keep us pure, undefiled, protected and sinless. The word makes us wise. It converts our soul and makes us capable to turn from evil to good; it converts the soul. It is often said that being a mature believer is directly related to the amount of God's word resident in you. Now, this is not about head knowledge of the word, No! Its about how much the word has converted your soul, changed you from inside, made you more like JESUS.

Psalm 1:1-2 also talks about the blessedness of the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor sits in the seat of the scornful but whose delight is in the law of the lord and he meditates upon it day and night. A Christian cannot separate himself from the seed that sired him. We are born again not of the corruptible seed, but of the incorruptible, by the word of God which liveth and abideth forever (1Peter 1:23). And John 1:1 will tell us that this word was in the beginning, and it was with God and it was God; all things were made by him and without him was not anything made that was made, in him was life! Alleluia!! No wonder he said "I have come that you may have life and have it more abundantly". Beloved, if you want real life, then enter into the word of God; JESUS. If you wish to grow in your walk with him, he tells you in John 15 to abide in him the true vine, if you abide in me and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will and it shall be done unto you.
Let us stop making the mistake of thinking that there is power anywhere else. Every power we need can only be found in the word of God which is equal to Jesus and Jesus is the power and wisdom of God. Nothing was ever done without this word, it is the basic foundation upon which the heavens and the earth is established. Nothing can go beyond this word too. Any acrobatic displays or drama or long prayers or ceremonies whatever we do in the guise of being spiritual which has no root in this word or does not accord it its prior place is just a sham. Look for the real power today; get into the word of God!
PRAYER: father we thank you for the gift of the word made man Jesus. We also thank you for the gift of your written word; the bible. Grant us grace lord to stay connected with this word daily. That while we read and meditate on it, we shall grow to become more and more like him every day. This we ask in Jesus name, Amen!
