VERSE OF THE DAY FOR AUGUST 18, 2020

Today's verse for meditation and memorization is 1John 1:7

"but if we are in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanses us from all sins"

I love the rendition in message bible: verses 6-7

If we claim that we experience a shared life with him and continue to stumble around in the dark, we're not living what we claim. But, if we walk in the light, God himself being the light, we also experience a shared life with one another, as the sacrificed blood of Jesus God's son, purges all our sin. (MSG)

Thoughts on Today's Verse

What does it mean to walk in the light? Jesus said  in John  8:12, 12:46; I am the light of the world, whoever comes to me will not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life. There are  two basic opposing powers and two sides to which any created human being must belong; LIGHT or DARKNESS. From eternity past these two powers have been at loggerheads. We didn't know when the fight began but we must choose where we want to belong. Right from the beginning of creation, darkness covered the face of the deep, until God said;"let their be light" and there was light. Light prevailed, but after the incidence of Genesis 3, the whole world was again immersed in darkness. The whole of subsequent bible narratives was then set towards the unveiling of this light again after Genesis 3 catastrophe. Jesus is this light.  The day's verse is saying that if we are actually in this light, Jesus and have received of his nature, then, our lives will be characterized by love and  mutual fellowship with unfeigned faces for fellow brethren, then the blood of Jesus, the eternal blood shed from the foundation of the earth, which conferred the title of light on him, continually cleanses us from all sin.

PRAYER: faithful and loving father to whom all flesh shall come, you have really unveiled Christ Jesus the messiah and anointed one who saves as the light of life and the power that supersedes every other power. In your love, you called us to share in his image and nature, grant dear father that as we dwell daily in his presence his nature of love, humility, kindness and all virtue will be poured out on us that we shall never look back at the horrible pit of darkness from which he has saved us. We ask this in the name of your son, Jesus, Amen!
