DAILY GUIDE DEVOTIONAL: Rejecting Deliverance
Stephen continued his exposition. He took the elders down memory lane, he wants to bridge the gap between what had happened in the past and what's happening at the moment. He connects them to Jesus whom Moses had promised even long ago in the wilderness that God was going to send. He confronted them with the fact that their ancestors rejected Moses by asking who made him "Lord and judge", yet, it was him that God would eventually call on mount Sinai to go and rescue his people. How we look down on people at times, especially when they seem beneath us and unworthy of any gifts or talents they might posses. We talk them down and disregard the gift in them. Yet God will have his way at the end, no matter our disposition concerning anyone he's ordained.
Moses was rejected yet God anointed him and worked many wonders by his hands, the children of Israel rejected him and would rather serve idols. In the present congregation being addressed, the same scenario was playing out. Jesus had been ordained by the father as the saviour of the world, but the leaders of the Jews repudiated this offer of God. They despised Jesus, killed him and are now after his disciples to shut them up.
Many people in our churches today knowingly or unknowingly fight the wisdom of God. We quench the holy spirit and refuse to accept his leading probably because its not coming from someone they respect. Moses was only a shadow pointing to Jesus. Jesus has lead us out of spiritual slavery and horrible darkness because him Alone has God set forth as a propitiation for sin. The whole world may reject him but can never change God's mandate concerning him. "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved" Acts 4:12(NKJV). Many religions today offer different means of reconciliation with God but Bible is clear that salvation is only possible through Jesus. May we, who have received the grace of salvation through Jesus Christ, go forth and proclaim this to the world.
