DAILY GUIDE DEVOTIONAL: God of Wonders
What happened in Acts chapter 5 is what happens in any church where the word of God is given paramount importance. Jesus promised his apostles that whatever he does, they can also do. "Greater works than these you will do because I go to the father.John 14:12
Now, after the comforter, the holy spirit has come, these men left houses and other cares and went full time into the business of the kingdom. Verse 12 records that they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch s they continued to increase. They didn't go home to continue with their normal business hours. They tarried rather in the church with just one duty in mind; to preach the gospel about God's kingdom. As they faithfully engaged in this work, more and more souls were added and mighty miracles were the offshoot of their faith and trust in GOD. God does not release the kingdom message to truants. He does not commit it to men who are not diligent in their work. When he was on earth, Jesus went from village to village, town to town preaching about God's kingdom, as he did, miracles followed.

The point here is that genuine miracles and wonders of God is as a result of preaching his name, especially to unbelievers. Jesus said in Mark 16:17 "And these signs shall follow them that believe, in my name they will cast out demons, they will speak in new tongues and if they drink anything deadly it will not hurt them". But there is a preceding assignment to this promise. In Mark 16:15 He said to them Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature'.
The apostles were followed by miracles because they are committed to enlarging God's kingdom by constantly preaching, and praying in unity of faith. We cannot boast of such miracles today because we have changed the mandate if the master to our own mandate. Our world is plunging deeper and deeper into evil and darkness. Corruption, wickedness, oppression, immorality, nepotism, racism, avarice, greed murder are all increasing on alarming scale. And we who attest to be born again already know that people do these things because they are held bound by the spirit of darkness. What should be our duty? We cannot fold our hands and close our eyes to these atrocities occurring in a larger scale everyday
We must get up from our comfort zones. God is waiting for us to sincerely call on him for visitation on the earth. Churches are lying forlorn and even closed today, yet we are still complacent. We should read the handwriting on the wall and get up to do the needful. May God grant us grace to seek him when he can yet be found. Amen.
