DAILY GUIDE DEVOTIONAL: Living in the light with God

Text: 1John 1:1-10.

Verse 6, if we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth...

This is the verse that struck me this morning and made me stop on my track. It got me asking; "what does it mean to say we  have fellowship with him and still  walk in darkness?" And the answer is that many children of God fall into this error. Bible says we should have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness but rather to expose them. Yet we children of God live shady lives. Our lives have question marks on them due to some character and attitude we exhibit which are not in line with God's word.

A good stream cannot bring forth sweet and bitter water at the same time, but this happens with us. this morning  we are being called to order.  We cannot continue this way.  If we love God we should dwell in the light continually as He is light. Everything is open and laid bare. There are no hidden parts of our lives that if uncovered should make us shamefaced. We should have no skeletons in our cupboards and mustn't be found wanting before men and before God. Our lives should be such that it would be completely transparent hiding nothing.

But you can bet that Satan will never allow us to have this kind of freedom. He wants us to forever remain in the bondage of one sin or the other so that he will find a reason to accuse us. But the good news is; Jesus has promise that anyone he sets free is free indeed. It is not mere talk. That "he has come to give us life more abundantly" is not a joke. There is nothing too great for Jesus to do. Every manner of sinful afflictions that might be attacking you which you are battling with, Jesus is more than able to overcome them for you. He did it for me and he can do it for you.

Dear  child of God don't feel incapacitated. Do not feel overwhelmed he who asked you to catch the  shrew will give you enough water to wash your hands. He is eternal life personified. When we come to him he imputes eternal life to us. He cancels all debts that we owe and set us on the right track to eternity. The provision made by his blood is to cleanse us once and for all for sin and to cleanse us continuously for sins until this life here is over( v9) As we continue to exist on this side of eternity, there will be continuous attacks on us from the world,  sin and Satan,

but, this  is the victory that overcomes the world...Our faith in Jesus Christ. For we overcome by the blood of the lamb and by the word of our testimony
