DAILY GUIDE DEVOTIONAL: "Christ the Wisdom of God"

Text: Proverbs 8:22-36

Proverbs Chapter 8 is a holistic introduction of the wisdom attribute of God. Wisdom is the foundational feature of God besides holiness, justice and love. In this chapter it is personified as a woman. And in verse 22 where today's study began, she says I'm possessed by God in the beginning of his way before even his works began". This shows us how intricately woven God and his wisdom is. God and his wisdom are one and there is none without the other. Further in the new testament epistles, ( 1 Corinthians 1:24 &30, Colossians 1:30) God will more clearly give a name to this aspect of his personality and call him JESUS. He is also the word of God (John 1:1-3) and the express image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15). He is the God who came down to earth to do the work of reconciling man to God that the disrupted equilibrium in God's purpose and scheme of things will be restructured again. For in verse 31 we can hear wisdom say; "( I was) rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth and my delights were with the sons of men".

Wisdom calls from  verse 32-33 to hearken unto her; to hear instructions and be wise. What does Christ say to us in this? From beginning to the end of his message is that we should turn from wickedness and embrace righteousness, which is already made possible in him by his father. Verse 34- "blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors". This is the blessedness of every born again believer. We are blessed when we approach God's presence daily. When we frequent his house and seek his face regularly; when we study his word to understand his mind and what he will have us do. There is no other joy a believer has than this. And a neglect of this daily communion jeopardises our fruitfulness and growth.

" For whoso findeth me findeth life and shall obtain favour of the lord". Whoever receives Christ as his lord and master has received life, blessings and favour from Jehovah God. JESUS as the Wisdom of God is the only route to any meaningful existence. He is the everlasting reality. Life only begins when we find him. All of our worldly pursuits are basically useless without the Wisdom of God, Christ Jesus, in our lives. No wonder in verse 36 we see " but he that sins against me wrongs his own soul; all they that hate me love death". This is similar to 1 John 5:11-12. "And this is the record, God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his son, He who has the son of God, has life and he who have not the son have not life". Jesus, the Wisdom of God and also the visible image of the invisible God is calling us, pleading that we should embrace him and live. We should look at him and have life for life is nowhere else but in him. Have you embraced him already? Then hold on to him tenaciously. Are you yet to decide? Please decide to accept him today and live. Today is the acceptable day of salvation. Tomorrow may be too late.
