DAILY GUIDE DEVOTIONAL: God Protects and Provides
Text: 2 Samuel 17:15-29
Yesterday, we saw that the counsel of the lord shall stand. As believers one lesson we can learn from David's life is that our sin cannot end our relationship with God unless we did not repent of those sins. God may punish us by allowing us to pass through difficulties as a result of our wrong choices in the past. This he does to correct us as a good father. The sweet part of the relationship we have with him is that he does not leave us forsaken even at this time. David sinned and God told him that the consequences of his actions must be upon his household. From that chapter upwards we began to see these after effects of his sin being unleashed upon him and his household.
In Today's reading, however, we can all marvel at the divine arrangements God made for David's protection and provision. He thwarted the evil plots of the traitors and positioned his own people to warn his servant David. He sent the "ravens" in the persons of Shobi an ammonite, Machir of Lodebar and Barzillai of Rogel to provide all the basic needs of David and his household. Consider that these men are not Israelites and marvel at the wisdom and greatness of God. He can use strangers and friends to take care of us even more than family members. On the other hand it was obvious from verse 23 what became the reward of Ahitophel for his evil deeds.
Therefore, beloved, trust in the Lord with all your hearts and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your path (Proverbs 3:5-6) Trust that he knows what he is doing in your life at all times and believe that he is with you even when you are passing through difficulties. This will encourage you to pray like Job, "even though he slay me, yet I will trust in him" (Job 13:15).
Father you have given us another encouragement today that your love over us is eternal. Even when you chastise us, you will still provide fresh springs of refreshing in the desert. Help us lord at such moments to trust you completely and turn to you in humble prayer. Blessed be your holy name, for you always got us covered. Remain highly exalted in Jesus name Amen!
