VERSE OF THE DAY FOR AUGUST 9, 2020

Today's verse for meditation and memorization is Joshua 24:15

And if it seems evil to you to serve the lord, "choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the God's which your fathers served that were on the other side of the river, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the lord"

Thoughts on today's verse

This verse is one of the prominent verses in the book of Joshua. His book shows the transition from the slavery in Egypt through the wilderness journey and the subsequent settling in the promised land. Joshua had seen enough to know that the children of Israel might not remain faithful to God in the coming years so he charged them to choose between God and their idols. The decision to serve God is a personal issue. Though there's room for collective worship but we are each responsible for the state of our hearts and the decisions we've made concerning our commitment to God. Joshua quickly pointed out his stand, he couldn't vouch for the whole house of Israel, but he could sure speak for himself and his household and obviously, he's taken a decision to give it all up for God.

PRAYER:Lord, I have said yes to your worship and here I stand. I stay committed and connected to serving you all the days of my life; and its not just me, but every single soul in my household. Keep us focused on this task everyday of our lives through Christ Jesus, amen.
