DAILY GUIDE DEVOTIONAL: God is Gracious
Text:Psalms 106:1-23
Verse 6: we have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.
This is the confession of the psalmist. It shows the humble heart of a genuine worshipper. Psalm 66:18 says, "if I should regard Iniquity in my heart, the lord will not hear me". The psalmist knew this very well and began with confession of the sins of his ancestors. Christ has brought us into his marvelous kingdom by the virtue of his shed blood to which we have pledged allegiance. We are still required to confess and repent of any known sins of idolatry, perversion or outright disobedience of our own and that of our predecessors. Some believers have a family record of occultism, especially in Africa you cannot overlook it. Take conscious steps to pray and extricate yourself from all the evil covenants of such practices.
The psalmist did not just browse through the prayers, he outlined them one by one and acknowledged them for the wrong they were. From verses 7-23 we see him mentioning them; "they did not understand God's wonders in Egypt, they did not remember God's mercies, yet he saved them from the hand of their haters and dried up the red sea before them; In the wilderness, they lusted exceedingly and tested God, yet he gave them their request but visited them with leanness. Dathan and Abiram were swallowed up for murmuring and envy against Moses; They made a Calf in Horeb and changed the glory of their God to that of an ox. Yet God relented of his punishment at the prayer of Moses".
God is gracious and merciful, He does not always chide neither does he keep record of sins forever, but we must not cover our sins like Adam in Job 31:33 and pretend that they never happened. Some generational curses that still speak today is as a result of unconfessed generational sins. Let us be the watchmen on behalf of our families as we stand in the gap today to confess and denounce the ancestral sins.
God is gracious and merciful🙇
