DAILY GUIDE DEVOTIONAL; BACKSLIDING BELIEVER

Text 2 Samuel 11:1-13
Catch us the foxes, the little foxes that spoil the vines for our vines have tender grapes (song of Solomon 2:15)  it brings tears to the eyes to read about this downward decline of the man of God. He is the man after God's heart, full of zeal and vibrancy to the lord. He has been doing exploits and now this.

What could have led King David to come so low as to commit adultery? David was at home when he had a war to fight. Verse 1 says " it happened in the spring of the year, at the time when king's go out to battle, that David sent  Joab and his servants with him and all Israel and they destroyed the people of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem"

He ought to be the one leading the army instead he decided to take a holiday. He left his office vacant and opened the back door for Satan. My question is why did he get tired of going to war? Why did he loose interest in doing the will of his master and rather decided to recline at home and gallivant around? Is it familiarity or contempt for the lord? Was it a psychological need for excitement? What could have made this great man of God decide to go off duty at this time?

These are pertinent questions we should ask and
answer ourselves. Today's lesson calls for sober reflection. It points out clearly that no believer is above fall. We have been redeemed, cleansed and washed but we have to engage fully all of our faculties in total yielding to the holy spirit in order to remain victorious.

Take note that David's fall did not just happen. A close look at his life will show us that the sin of lust has been a cancer and a canker work in his Christian Life. He has amassed many wives and concubines yet, his lust wasn't cured. Until it finally got him destroyed if not for God's mercy.

What is that sin that always pops up on you. You have tried all you can to stop it. You have prayed, fasted, beaten yourself, hidden away from the source of temptation yet it's still there. That sin has become like an addiction and obsession for you. Maybe you have also taken a lot of studies on how to overcome it but all to no avail. There is good news. Jesus has taken care of that problem. He is not going to...NO! He had already! He has taken care of your sin problem. He did it on the cross. He syphoned the venom of sin out of your life and crucified it on the cross.

Sin has no power over you again. Be it addiction to drugs, lust, kleptomania, lying, gossip, anger, hatred, laziness, gluttony, jealousy,,,whatever name they go by, JESUS had treated them for you. All you need do is to step into the inheritance by faith through earnest prayers. There is no sin too great that Jesus cannot stop. Cry out to him today. Do not go about seeking to fight the sin in your own power because that method is a total failure.  Jesus cuts off sinful inclinations from the root and they never appear again. Come to him today. No matter how far you have gone into the sin or the lofty position you occupy in the church. He knows you inside out. If you continue to hide a sinful habit it will destroy your Christian Life and all your efforts will be in vain.

Go into your closet that's where Jesus works better. Open up to him sincerely. Tell him how helpless you are. He will hear you and he will heal you. Thank you father for the circumcision without hands that you work among your children give us grace to always draw near and present our little foxes to you that  you may catch them for us. Amen.
